Genealogy Collection

The library has an extensive collection of genealogical materials including local family histories, cemetery records, and other items of interest.

The library's genealogy collection contains local history, family histories, some cemetery records, the local newspaper The Guttenberg Press from 1897 to the present, some earlier issues of the Clayton County Journal and Mississippi Valley Register, and Clayton County census information on microfilm.  Most older newspapers are on microfilm, but some are in bound volumes. The collection is available when the library is open.  Materials may not be checked out. It is a good idea to call the library to reserve the reader-printer to view microfilm. Library staff will assist patrons with a general orientation to the genealogy collection and with instruction on how to use the reader-printer. In addition to microfilm, the library now offers the newspaper digital archive online.
