Guttenberg's Pearl Button Industry Document & Photo Scanning Day

In a cooperative project, the Guttenberg Library and the Clayton County Genealogical Society are working together to place historic photos and documents on the Iowa Heritage Digital Collection website. If people have old pictures and documents from the pearl button factories in town, please bring them to the library on Thursday, September 6 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to be scanned.

A representative of the Genealogical Society and a Guttenberg Library staff member will be available to scan the items.  A contract will need to be signed, giving permission for the scanned items to be published online. Additional information about the photos or documents is important to record:

Dates and names of people in the photographs

Who took the picture?

Where was it was taken?

Any personal stories about the button industry which are typed out or written out may also be scanned.
